A dialog with James Gardner Pirie Scott regarding The Seaboard – Tampa Bay, Florida

TropicanaHello there, I have a little story to tell. I had a friend in Tampa’, Leslie, who I regularly play Texas Holdem and pottery with. One time she won a Nationalachi Poker Tournament with a final table of 4 games. Since my friend was a skilled player she asked me to join her for the trip home. As we were waiting for her at the airport we chatted and I found out she was traveling with a friend and her mother. Leslie detailed how she had won a lot in tournaments and she loved playing Texas Holdem with her poker buddies.

That evening I invited them to join me for a few margaritas. We had a great meal and a lot of good conversation. Later I invited them to come back to my place and I invited them to stay the night. Another war story. They said they had never stayed in a casino before and it was a whole new experience for them. They were impressed with my ability to find them a room when most resorts had 2 rooms for the price of 1.

The next morning I got a little tired and I hadn’t eaten breakfast so I went back to the pool area to have a shower. There I found a nice little Tooanoa Lounge and had a nice chat with Leslie, a former highschool teacher, who complained about me to her friends about me being a piece of “crap” who should be shot. I ended up talking to three or four more lounge Lounge girls and got a whole bunch of attention. I even heard some people tell me to buy a membership to Gorgeous Las Vegas 2007, a full-service health club located at the Riviera in Las Vegas. If I am ever in that area again I will certainly take a look.

At the casino that night we had a high stakes game and lost. I had a beer and two glasses of wine. I didn’t drink again.

The rest of the weekend was filled with more losses and with helping my friend Leslie out of tight financial situations. I feel I even learned from her financial situations. The whole idea of traveling to Las Vegas has always had me wondering if I’ll ever win money or lose money. But we will all winners in one way or another. I have even won trips to Las Vegas with winnings when I have planned them.

So I have decided that now is the time to make a trip to Las Vegas. I have also decided to take a leave from my job to save some money before I go. I am looking for a part time job in the area of Las Vegas to supplement my very small salary. I figure I’ll need at least $800 before I go and I have about a $250 cushion until I get my spring break vacation. Any way you slice it, it’s a lot of money to live off while I’m living it up in Southern California.

I have always wanted to venture to the far away land of Las Vegas. Everyone thinks that there are casinos in the other side of the world. Well, there is only one Las Vegas and it is yours for the taking. Las Vegas is a great city and if you plan your trip right, you will be there in no time at all. Just remember the old adage…you get what you pay for.

It has been several years since I have been out to Las Vegas but I have to say that since my last trip many things have changed. The main thing is that gambling is still very popular but there are other things to do. You can now enjoy a show for the same amount of cash that you would if you were in your own living room. The shows are better paced and more family friendly. There are tons of family dining options and casinos provide slot machines and video poker machines.

I would also recommend that you check out the benefit of accruing scratch off travel copies of your meal instead of a whole new meal. A meal for 4 can easily burn over $100 in food and souvenirs. Scratch off tickets allow you to buy the equivalent of a full meal and save a ton of money in the process. When was the last time you were able to eat a decent meal for $30 or $40?

There are so many things to do in Las Vegas that you can choose to enjoy in the evenings. Instead of going to a cabaret, why not spend the evening at the casino. You can go to a museum, have a dinner at a fancy restaurant or gamble at a casino. There are so many things to do in Las Vegas that you can choose from.

I have spent many years trying to figure out how much money I would need to stay in Las Vegas. Fact is, I probably could have saved a lot of money by not picking one of the hotels at the first place.
